My Dharma

I’m a Buddhist in the Gelug school of Tibetan Buddhism. If you want an idea of what that means, the most famous Gelugpa is unquestionably His Holiness The Dalai Lama.

I didn’t join the Gelug school because of His Holiness’s fame though. I joined because of the school’s long tradition of rigorous scholarship, and even better, the fact that a Gelug-affiliated Dharma center is about two miles from my apartment.

  1. One of the concepts that I’ve always wanted to learn is the Kalachakra. One of my mentors learned the Kalachakra teaching, but apparently it’s very complex. The Dalai Lama teaches it right?

Random question: Do you like how Gelug Tibetan Buddhists are portrayed in Avatar: The Last Airbender? (This is my favorite TV show of all time…got me through some dark places in my life.)

    1. The Kalachakra Tantra has been taught on multiple occasions by His Holiness, but I have not been initiated into tantric practices of any form, so I have no knowledge of it or the other esoterica in the Gelug school (and if I did, I probably couldn’t tell you about them over the internet 😉 ….)

I can’t answer your second question, because I’ve never watched any of the Avatar series….
